Gadgets in West Wood Remake
Information is only useful if your squad still knows how to sit in the dark.
The remake added two gadgets the original never dreamed about: a radar tablet and an audio device. Cameras, radios, and lure phones appeared across other sneak peeks. These tools do not kill the creature — they buy your squad time to make the right call.
Radar Tablet
The radar tablet displays beacons for objectives, threats, and squad members within range. After the August 24 patch, radar only shows beacons from its originating tablet and beacons disappear when the device is destroyed. This was a community-requested fix for screen clutter.
The radar is most useful for the Navigator role during night phases — one player watches the radar while the squad holds position, calling out when the creature enters the safehouse cluster. Without a dedicated caller, the radar becomes noise.
Radar Limitations
- Range is finite — do not assume every beacon on the map is visible
- Beacons from other tablets do not cross-reference
- Device destruction removes all beacons from that device
Audio Device
The audio device picks up environmental sounds and creature activity. It can detect Jerry approaching before visual contact, other players movement, and environmental cues like doors opening in distant buildings.
The audio device is a listening tool, not a broadcasting one. Jerry cannot hear the device — only your squad benefits from the information it provides.
Using Audio Effectively
- Designate one player as the Listener — they hold the audio device and calls what they hear
- Walk slowly while using it — movement creates interference
- Pair with a radar tablet in the same squad for maximum coverage
- Battery or charge limits may apply — do not leave it running continuously
Security Cameras
Some buildings have functional security cameras connected to an interior monitor. The camera system lets one player watch multiple entry points from a single screen.
Camera Positions
Common camera positions documented from community footage:
- Living room — covers front entrance and partial side window
- Stairs — covers ground floor approach
- Front door — narrow but reliable approach coverage
- Back door — covers rear approach and yard entry
Camera Best Practices
- Assign the Listener or a Medic to camera duty during night
- One player watching cameras can cover multiple entry points no single player can watch simultaneously
- Call creature position in real time: “Jerry at front door, north side” lets the squad pre-position
- Cameras may go dark during power outage events — do not depend on them exclusively
Phone Lure
Phones in certain locations can ring and attract Jerry’s attention. The lure mechanic is powerful but risky — used correctly, it redirects the creature away from your position; used poorly, it attracts Jerry to the wrong safehouse.
When to Use Phone Lure
- When Jerry is circling your safehouse and the squad needs 30 seconds to rotate
- When a player needs to extract and needs a distraction
- When a delivery carrier needs a clear path to the turn-in point
Phone Lure Risks
- The ring range is finite — you must be close enough that Jerry hears it
- Other squads can also hear the lure — it reveals your general area
- Using a phone inside a structure may attract Jerry to that structure
Signal Tower and Radio GUI
The signal tower extends radio range for players near it. Move toward the signal tower to maintain radio contact when the squad is spread across large distances.
During normal night operations, squad members stay within voice chat range. When contracts require splitting up, the signal tower becomes the coordination backbone.
Post-Release Patch Changes (August 24, 2026)
The August 24 patch included a specific change to the radar system:
- Radar now only displays beacons from its originating tablet
- Beacons disappear after device destruction
- This change reduced screen clutter and made the radar require more strategic device placement
Gadget vs. Combat Balance
No gadget replaces a bear trap, a flamethrower, or a full squad. The radar tells you where Jerry is — it does not stop him. Audio tells you what is coming — it does not slow him down.
Use gadgets to inform decisions, not replace combat readiness.
Evidence Note
Gadget mechanics documented from community gameplay footage, A_L Studios sneak peek videos, and the August 24 Post-Release Patch notes. Specific range values, battery duration, and beacon limits require in-game verification.
