Getting Started in West Wood
First spawn to first successful night — step by step.
West Wood drops you in an isolated Alberta community far from modern help. The official pitch is simple: Gather, Hide, Run. In practice, your first hour is about learning the town layout, managing hunger and thirst, opening contracts, and staying near teammates before darkness brings the creature out.
Joining the experience
Search West Wood on Roblox or open the official page linked from Official Links. Created by West Wood Group, the experience supports PC, mobile, and Xbox through the Roblox client. Server size is capped around ten players — small enough that every decision matters in co-op.
Important: Development on the original game paused while the team builds a full remake. If the experience shows as unavailable, read Remake Status instead of assuming your account is broken.
First-minute checklist
- Spawn with your group — do not scatter to random houses until someone knows a return route.\n2. Open contracts (G on PC) — covered in Contracts Guide.\n3. Loot essentials — food, water, bandages, bear traps if you find them.\n4. Mark landmarks — general store, power station, dealer areas from Map Landmarks.\n5. Save sprint — Left Shift is escape fuel, not walking speed. See PC Controls.
Core loop explained
Daylight is for preparation. Players explore houses numbered across the map, stock supplies, and complete contract objectives that reward soul coins. Rain and blackouts change visibility — Weather and Outages explains why those runs feel harder.
When night arrives, the creature hunts. You hide inside structures, use traps, and run only when a break-in is imminent. Panic sprinting across the whole map leaves you exhausted when the chase actually starts — Survive the Night breaks that rhythm down.
Progression beyond one night
Badges track milestones: rainy weather, power outages, opening the general store, holding 100–10000 soul coins, buying from the dealer, purchasing medallions. That means West Wood rewards system play, not only raw survival time. Read Soul Coins and Medallions and Accessories before grinding blindly.
Common beginner mistakes
Splitting solo too early gets players killed before they learn house numbers. Ignoring thirst during looting causes passive deaths. Using sprint for ordinary travel wastes stamina. Skipping contracts leaves the team without shared goals. Fix these with Co-op Tips and Hunger and Thirst.
Platform notes
PC players get the clearest control scheme: Backspace drop, G contracts, H accessories, T unlock mouse. Console uses B/Circle drop, Y/Triangle contracts, D-Pad Down accessories, stick press sprint. Mobile works but horror UI is tighter — read Console and Mobile Controls before your first mobile night.
What to read next
After your first session, prioritize How to Hide and Escape, General Store and Keys, and Items Tier List. For promo rewards that may return with the remake, bookmark Active Codes.
Session length expectations
First sessions often end in learning wipes — normal. Repeat daylight loops until house numbers feel familiar before chasing McDuck coin badges.
First session goal
Leave run one knowing three house numbers and one store route.
Your first three nights roadmap
Night one: learn controls and one safe house cluster. Night two: complete a contract and stock food. Night three: attempt general store progress or first medallion savings. Skipping this curve causes burnout when veterans discuss dealer routes you cannot reach yet.
Audio settings matter
West Wood’s atmosphere uses sound heavily. Set Roblox and system volume so footsteps, weather, and break-in cues are audible without clipping. Mobile speakers often hide directional audio — use headphones when possible.
When the game shows unavailable
Roblox may list the experience offline during remake work. Join Official Discord for playtest pings rather than downloading fake “West Wood beta” executables. Remake Status explains the pause without blaming your hardware.
